Week 30
Hellooo friends & family! This week was an absolute roller coaster of emotions. Scary moments of having to be the "man" of our house & protect my chicken comps to hilarious moments where we literally died laughing after a failed door approach to the sweetest moment of hearing your friend bear his testimony in church after being baptized for only a few weeks. Here's some of this week's main events...
☆SISTER MACHEN'S FUNNIEST MOMENT☆
-one evening we were knocking some doors that had been suggested to us by some members and the funniest thing ever happened. We let our new missionary lead this one and it went like this...
*At a door*
Us: Hello, how are you?
Person: Mentally ill, how about you?
Sister Machen: Hi, I'm Sister Machen and I'm pretty good.
Everyone except Sister Machen(even the nonmember haha): *dies of laughter*
The only reason this was so funny was that she wasn't joking. She's been working on developing listening skills... because she doesn’t listen. She just went on with her rehearsed response and it was so funny. Luckily that house was the perfect situation and the person didn't react bad. We tried not to give her a hard time about it because its barely her second week on the mission but at the same time you've gotta learn from that and not do it again, and it's so funny that we can't help but laugh whenever we bring it back up. Letting people learn from failing is a hard thing for me to do because I just wanna help them, but you do learn more when you experience things for yourself so it make sense. She is learning the art of listening.
☆THURSDAY NIGHT...☆
-Thursday was a wild day. We had that funny door approach happen in the afternoon, and then in the evening we were parked outside a dark house getting ready to go knock and ask for some info on a friend of theirs when a car pulled up and a little girl gets out and just starts running away from the house up the street (barefoot, in the cold dark evening) which was super sketchy and creepy and gave off horror movie vibes and a tall sus man got out and slowly walked towards the door of that house. We all looked at each other and at the same time yelled "we need to go, now" we sped off and away feeling super uncomfortable and a super bad feeling and we're not sure why, but we know that we're glad we listened to our prompting and got away from there. But later that night back at home, our new sister was being super weird. She felt super anxious and kept making creepy comments. She kept asking if the door was locked and if we checked all the rooms and it was scaring us but one of us has to not be scared and I've learned if you don't act scared, it's relieving to them sometimes so I went out and checked the door and checked all the rooms and didn't find anyone (thank freaking goodness) but she rushed us all in the bedroom (I was not ready for bed I hadn't brushed my teeth or taken my makeup off or washed my face or cleaned up my stuff) and locked the door and had us all stay together while she panicked and so we just had to deal with that. None of us got much sleep that night and we are still recovering from that. We never figured out what was wrong because the next morning she seemed a little better and didn't really talk about it again but we dealt with several more breakdowns and had to reach out for more serious help. But we all love each other and are trying our best to take care of each other. This week has unintentially taught me lots of parenting strategies I will and won't be using in my future though because I've now witnessed first hand what sheltered people deal with when being thrown into the real world and start living on their own. The real world is scary but you absolutely cannot learn that you can't leave a stove on while you're gone from the house at the age of 19. Or that abuse is a real thing that has happened to way more people than you realize. Or that not everyone was raised in a loving family who believed in Jesus... it's been a DIFFICULT week. But still so many miracles and glad moments of course :))
☆MIRACLES☆
-Jorge seems to be our miracle each week honestly. It's been amazing watching him progress. Last week he got the priesthood and was so so happy. This week he bore his testimony in church and it was so touching. He talked about the greatest decision he ever made: referring himself to the missionaries. He said that day that 2 Sister missionaries & Rose (a member who's family has taken him in) has changed his whole life and has been the greatest decision he's made in his entire life. We all were in tears. He came and sat next to me after, thanked me and gave me a little side hug from the bench and it was just sweet. Seeing someone continue to progress towards Christ and grow in happiness and purpose in life after just baptism is crazy. Jesus Christ changes people. I will forever appreciate this unique limited time front row seat I've had to people's conversion. It's actually so amazing. God is SO good :)))
I finally answered some emails haha! Not much pics from this week but enjoy these few haha. I love yall :)))
